Introduction
The South Adams County Water and Sanitation District (SACWSD) faced challenges with hard groundwater supply, leading to calcium carbonate precipitation in their distribution system. They formed a Hardness Advisory Committee (HAC) to implement pellet softening for hardness treatment to address this in their drinking water supplies.
Our experts provided a solution by installing three 4.6 million gallons per day (MGD) Actina™ pellet softening reactors at SACWSD's facility. The system removes calcium hardness and produces easily dewatered and reusable waste pellets, reducing waste disposal costs compared to other water softening processes.
The system has successfully met SACWSD's target of 115 milligrams per liter with plus or minus 10% total hardness, minimizing scaling issues in the distribution network and improving the water quality sent to their customers
